The Ultimate Cosmo: Claro Cosmopolitan

Last week was a good one: finishing projects, starting new ones, very productive, exiting! It was the kind of week that when the clock hits 5:00 pm on Friday you feel like you want to relax and celebrate for all the good things. Unexpectedly, a friend sent me a message from Russia to tell me he had Ron de Venezuela in Moscow! So I decided to have some good Ron de Venezuela in Southern California.

I mixed a Claro Cosmopolitan, which is the Ron de Venezuela version of the classic Cosmopolitan, not only because I love martini glasses but also because its color is simply beautiful and it taste like heaven. A friend from Ron Santa Teresa–NYC passed me the recipe last May, when I was looking for something to drink ‘like Sex & The City’.

The original Cosmopolitan is made out of vodka and triple sec. This Ron de Venezuela edition is made out of Santa Teresa Claro, a superb rum created to mix in cocktails, and Rhum Orange Liqueur, a sweet rum and orange peel liqueur.

Claro Cosmopolitan
1 oz Ron de Venezuela Santa Teresa Claro
⅓ oz Rhum Orange Liqueur
⅔ oz of fresh lime juice
1 Tbsp of gomme
2 dashes of orange bitters
⅓ oz of cranberry juice

Add all ingredients to a boston. Shake with cubed ice and fine strain into a frozen martini glass. Garnish with a flamed orange zest.
