- 3 ripe plantains peeled and cut into thirds
- ½ cup vegetable oil for frying
- 1 cup water
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 8 whole cloves
Heat the oil in a deep skillet over medium heat.
Fry the plantains until golden, about 10 minutes.
Remove from the pan and place on paper towels.
Discard the oil and wipe the skillet clean if needed.
Add the water, sugar, and cloves to the skillet and stir.
Add the plantains and bring to a boil over high heat.
Lower the heat and simmer for 12 minutes, or until the syrup thickens and becomes fragrant.
