In Venezuela, the country where I was born and raised, we have a sayin: “en casa de herrero, cuchillo de palo” (in the house of the blacksmith, wooden knives). That saying applies so much to the current situation in my house. I cook for others all the time so I must confess sometimes I don’t feel like washing a lettuce or creating gourmet salads.
The problem is that if I don’t eat a ton of green at least once a day, remorse will kill me. Lucky girl, a few days ago I discovered Sweet Kale Vegetable Salad Kit, a bag that has everything it takes to serve a gourmet salad, delicious and full of nutrients… because the salad is made with seven super foods.
And when I talk about super foods I’m literal serious. It has broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, kale, chicory, dried cranberries, toasted pumpkin seeds and a poppy seed dressing. What can be better than that? They sell it at Walmart in a four serving package, although I confess that I can eat the whole thing at lunch alone and I feel satisfied. What I like most is the crunchiness of all the veggies.I bought it a couple of days before traveling on July 27 to Houston —I was a speaker at Hispanicize Texas—, and completely forgot about the salad. On August 5th I saw it in the fridge. I opened, served, took the pictures that illustrate this post and of course I ate it.
I’m amazed about how all of its ingredients are kept so fresh and crisp, especially considering they do not contain any artificial ingredients: no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. In addition, Sweet Kale Vegetable Salad Kit is gluten-free and it’s 100% Clean Level.
All you have to do is open the bag, serve the salad in a bowl, sprinkle the toasted pumpkin seeds and the dried cranberries, and season with the poppy seed dressing, I think you can not ask for more. And believe me this is one of the best salads I’ve eaten lately.
